The Genetics and Genomics department was established in the year 2010 in Yogi Vemana University with the initiation of our honourable Vice-Chancellor Prof A.R. Reddy. The department has five faculty members from diversified research fields like immunogenetics, viral genetics, microbial genetics and plant biotechnology with Dr.L.Dakshayani as the Coordinator. The central and department laboratory has advanced equipments like PCR, UV Spectrophotometer, Gel documentation system, Refrigerated centrifuges, Laminor air flow, Steriomicroscope, incubators, minor equipments like Electrophoresis, Western blotting and Chromatography to carry out modern experiments related to Genetics, Molecular biology, Genetic engineering and Cell biology. This course is designed for to expose the students to wide ranging aspects in the field of Biotechnology, Genetics and Genomics to make the students highly skilled in both theory and lab. The Department of Genetics and Genomics course offers 2 year MSc course in semester pattern. In the academic year 2010-11, the enrolment is 30 . In the ensuing academic year 2011-2012 research program will be launched.
